top ten Beach Reads

The Broke and The Bookish Presents...

I know that I am always on the look out for books to read on the beach.  Now I just need a BEACH!

I think I have done something like this before, but I have read many other books since then, so here is an updated (but not in order of preference!)list:

1. The Wedding Beat by Devan Sipher. Think of the movie “27 Dresses” but the guy’s point of view!  It was fun reading Chick Lit written by a man (and this man actually wrote the “Vows” column for the New York Times!).

2. Austentatious by Alyssa Goodnight.  I am sure I would put her “Austensibly Ordinary” here as well, but I haven’t had time to read it yet!  If you love Jane Austen and you like quirky, this is THE PERFECT Beach Read!

3. Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by David Leviathan and Rachel Cohn. If you want to think cool weather while baking in the sun, this one is set during a winter holiday break.  I really enjoyed this story! Love the way it was written even more – between two authors – one chapter was written and then sent to the other author!

4. The Next Thing on My List by Jill Smolinski.  Watch out, though, this book just might make you grab a piece of paper and create your own list. It was funny and poignant, at the same time!

5. Awake: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey. A very clever retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but with a serious twist!  Even though it’s billed as YA, I thoroughly enjoyed it as it was smart and intelligent.

6. A Weekend with Mr. Darcy by Victoria Connelly.  This was my favorite out of the Austen Addicts books (I would recommend only this one, to be honest!)  I loved Lorna Warwick!  Read it… and then you will understand!

7. Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I really enjoyed the play between Cinder and Prince Kai. And who doesn’t love a good cyborg fairy retelling?!?!

8. The Rosetti Letter by Christi Phillips. Do you like mystery, time travel and intrigue?  This one is perfect for you!

9. The ‘What If’ Guy by Brooke Moss.  I really enjoyed this story.  The main character was quirky and real and I wanted her best friend.  The guy wasn’t bad either!  Great beach read!

10. Skipping a Beat by Sarah Pekkanen.  I really enjoyed this book, but I am going to warn you, you want to read the last part in your hotel room, or when it’s raining outside, because the tears might freak out the other beach goers!
