ff 5

This week's question is by Lisa Loves Literature!

If you could change the ending of any book (or series),
which book would you choose? Why and to what?

I would have to say - Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

Wow!  What an excellent question!  There have been SO many books where the ending sucked, IMHO!  Too many books seem to wrap up in about 15 pages, where you need several chapters more to make it not seem rushed (oops...the author is over the deadline and need an ending NOW)!  Or, the author just gets the ending completely wrong!  Or the ending seems to have nothing to do with the rest of the story...you wonder if someone else actually wrote it!

So, which one to chose?  I have to go with ‘Message in a Bottle,’ by Nicholas Sparks.  I actually screamed and threw this book across the room when I finished it!

I know it’s supposed to be a tear jerker…but why can’t they have their happily ever after?  You, as a reader, feel for Garrett and the loss of his wife, Catherine.  You also become quite invested in Theresa’s story, and hope that she finds a love of her own… someone who understands her and who will be there for her.  Why not have a ‘close call’ but have Garrett make it back to the shore and he and Theresa be together…and give them both a second chance at love.

I read this book over ten years ago, and I still remember my reaction to the ending.   So, this book I would definitely like to have re-written.  Even stick the guy in a coma for a few days or so, to build the tension, but then bring him out of it, and make everyone happy.  I don’t care about the whole adage: “It is better to have loved and lost then to have never loved.”  It’s better to let people know that there is a chance … a second chance waiting for them!

Then we have:
“What are you most looking forward to this fall/autumn season – A particular book release? Halloween? The leaves changing color? Cooler temperatures? A vacation? (If your next season is other than fall/autumn, tell us about it and what you are most looking forward to in your part of the world!)”

Halloween is my favorite holiday, for many reasons!  The first reason is that my first kiss to my husband of 20 years was on Halloween!  Another, there are so many great Halloween memories from childhood.  Also, we make a big deal of it with our kids!  We would have an annual pumpkin carving party with their friends!  And new moms out there... you have GOT to get on the Pumpkin Fairy Roster!  (I heard about the Pumpkin fairy when our kids were tiny, so it was perfect!  You have the kids set out their candy buckets by the front door - minus a few pieces you let them keep - and after they go to sleep, the Pumpkin Fairy comes and takes the candy and replaces it with toys!  No sugar in the house for weeks on end, and no more sugar rushes etc!  Toys last a lot longer!)

I am sure that there are books coming out that I want to read... but have so many on my plate...and cannot follow dates like that well enough!  But I am sure I will be grabbing a few new releases!

The BIG event is going to Hawaii for a long weekend to visit my sister and sit by the ocean!  I need that recharge!

What do you look forward to in the Fall?
